Wallops Flight Facility - Wallops Island, VA

The Wallops Flight Facility, located on Viriginia's eastern shore, focuses on the furthering of scientific, educational and economic advancement by providing the facilities and expertise to enable frequent flight opportunities for a diverse customer base. As an operational test site for the next generation of launch technologies, Wallops supports the commercial development of space technologies and the dissemination of information through educational and outreach programs. Wallops is recognized as a role model for pioneering productive and innovative government, industry and academic partnerships. The key mission elements include: suborbital program, low-cost orbital missions, operational test facilities and commercial development and educational outreach. Wallops is now NASA's principal facility for management and implementation of suborbital research programs. Wallops research programs focus on the development of a commercial orbital launch complex that supports small- to medium- class launch requirements. The research and responsibilities of Wallops Flight Facility are primarily focused on the philosophy of providing a fast, low cost, highly flexible and safe response to meet the needs of the United States' aerospace technology interests and science research.
