Fundamental Physics

This research area involves knowledge, capabilities and practices associated with research and application of electromagnetism, continuum and classical mechanics, quantum mechanics, and thermodynamics. This scientific field may also include studies in materials, cryogenics, acoustics, and electromagnetic fields ranging from DC to X-ray. This field also includes the development of sensors necessary to carry out these studies. Researchers in this field conduct microgravitational research designed to answer basic questions about the nature and structure of the universe and its chemical, biological and geophysical systems.
