Data Visualization

Data Visualization is the involved practices associated with extracting information and knowledge from extremely large data sets through interactions with visualization systems.  Included in this focus area is the development and use of advanced data visualization systems for data mining, pattern recognition and feature extraction for application to earth and space science data sets, as well as large engineering data sets for aviation and space systems.  Data Visualization also involves knowledge of state-of-the art modeling and simulation techniques and hardware for interpreting data and translating the data into animated images for use in scientific and education contexts. NASA personnel working in this research area need to posses an understanding of computer science, digital animation, three dimensional modeling, video generation and other data representation techniques. Lastly, NASA personnel involed in Data Visualization have aesthetic skills in creating renditions of data and the ability to communicate meaning.
