Jet Propulsion Laboratory - Pasadena, CA

Mars Science Laboratory The primary role of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory within NASA is the exploration of the solar system, including planet Earth, by means of unmanned, autonomous spacecraft and instruments. In total, JPL has 20 spacecraft and seven instruments conducting active missions. All of these are part of NASA's vision for space exploration, designed to explore Earth and space and to send robots and humans to explore the Moon, Mars and beyond. JPL scientists, technologists, and engineers are engaged in Earth atmosphere and geosciences; oceanography; planetary studies (including asteroid and comet); and solar, interplanetary, interstellar, and astrophysical disciplines. Fundamental to the structure of JPL is the cooperation among the functions of research, science, advanced technology, and engineering of these operating divisions. JPL is a NASA center staffed and managed for the government by Caltech.
