University of California Student Works with NASA Hands-On USRP internship
Pasadena, CA - December 7, 2009: California resident Tsung Han (Hank) Lin is a fall 2009 intern with the NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP).
Lin is working at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, CA.
Lin is working with a mentor for fifteen weeks on developing Automated Target Recognition (ATR) system for autonomous vehicles. The ATR system helps to be able to locate and track objects in real-time. Lin's job is to work on improving the tracking system.
"NASA USRP provides an enormous opportunity for students to work on fascinating and state-of-art projects. The great thing about USRP is they allow students to work on not just small stuff but interesting projects that are significant to the overall missions," comments Lin about his internship so far.
Lin is a Computer Science major at University of California, San Diego. He is a senior and plans to graduate in June, 2010.
"I am interested in developing intelligence for robots. Intelligence can be how robots 'perceive' its surrounding, how robots 'deduce' what to do to achieve its given goal," adds Lin about his academic path.
Nine Electrical and Computer Engineering students are currently working on-site for the Fall 2009 internship session at NASA Centers and Facilities through the Undergraduate Student Research Program internship opportunity.
