University of Louisiana Student Works with NASA Stennis Space Center Hands-On USRP Internship
Louisiana resident Steve Campo is a Fall 2009 intern with NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP). Campo works in the Engineering and Test Directorate at Stennis Space Center, near Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Campo works with a NASA mentor in the Design and Analysis Division where he and others are investigating test data from a project for a new engine that is planned to be used on the Ares I and Ares V launch vehicles under the Constellation program.
“I’ve taken great pride in being able to work for NASA in that my contributions are aiding in possibly a continued path in science exploration back to the moon and beyond,” commented Campo about his project and time at NASA. “Space exploration is an area that not many industries specialize in so working for NASA is very unique in that careful engineering and design must be used in every aspect.”
Campo is a senior from Amite, LA at the University of Louisiana- Lafayette. He plans to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree in May 2010.
“I not only enjoyed problem solving in scientific and mathematical situations, but I also enjoy planning and communication with others for their input in solving problems. Having liked those topics led me to take up a career in engineering,” adds Campo about his academic path.
NASA USRP has placed 23 mechanical engineering majors for the Fall 2009 internship session on-site at NASA centers across the U.S.
