Selection Process
About the NASA USRP Selection Process
NASA USRP projects are research projects that have been developed by NASA engineers and scientists specifically for undergraduate researchers. USRP projects are submitted to NASA center educational coordinators to be reviewed for scope and content. Once the project has been approved by NASA USRP coordinators the selection process begins. The USRP selection process decisions are based on the individual project job requirements that outline the necessary qualifications and skills needed to perform the duties of the project. NASA technical mentors and educational coordinators make student selection decisions based upon the specified qualifications and skills needed for the USRP project. After a careful and sometimes timely review process, the top candidates for the project are identified and an offer can be made to the selected student(s). The USRP selection process takes 1-3 months to finalize after each session deadline. The date at which offers are to be received depends on how quickly each individual NASA center and project mentor can review applications and make final decisions. The USRP selection process is a continuous process of reviewing applicants and making selections. An email notification will be sent for each NASA USRP session (Spring, Summer, and Fall) to all USRP applicants, notifying them that the selection process is final.
The USRP E-Offer Letter
Selected USRP applicants will receive an email offer called an “e-offer”. The e-offer letter will be sent to the applicants email address that was used as their username to create their application account. The e-offer letter will contain information to the proposed project and a link that leads to the job description. The job description will show up in the student’s USRP application. Once the student has reviewed the proposed internship project the student has the opportunity to accept or decline the offer. Students have 7 days to accept the offer at which time the offer will expire.
